Apparently nice sunny days in the middle of July don't make for great comic book shows. We managed to prove that just this last Sunday at the American Legion Post #111 as the show did not have a very large crowd. I would wager that many of the dealers did not sell very well unless they were offering large discounts. There just weren't enough people there spending for anyone to have made any real money.
I'm glad that I didn't setup a table myself, and rather went to chat with everyone and purchase some stuff for myself. I did manage to find a fair amount of issues that I needed, and some that were just so cheap I couldn't pass them up. Thanks to all the dealers that I did business with. Enough about me though, here's the pics from the show.

As always I had a great time at the show. Thanks to everyone who attended, dealers and customers. I hope to see you and everyone else at the next St. Louis Spector Club Comic Show, September 14.
If anyone needs any information about that show or any of the other local St. Louis shows and cons, you can always find it here:

It is time again for everyone to get off their collective butts, and come to Shrewsbury for the Spector Club Comic Show this Sunday from 10:30 to 2:30. Miss a recent new issue? Still looking for that same back issue from 10 years ago? Hoping to get lucky on a golden age classic? You should be able to find those things and many more.

See you there!
Good news for local comic collectors! The Hey Kids Comic Conventions show promoter has decided to do a second show in the St. Louis metro area! This new show will be located at an American Legion hall in Collinsville, Illinois. It should likely be very much the same sort of show we're all used to seeing from them in Chesterfield, but hopefully with a few different retailers and dealers.
As always, that information is posted here at Stl on our Comicon page:

Here's a pic from a past HKC show...

I was just flipping through a bunch of old pictures and scans of comics, and came across some from an ebay auction that ran back in 2004. The item was a bound volume that consisted of none other than original copies of Amazing Fantasy #15, Amazing Spider-Man #1-10 and the fairly hard to find Strange Tales Annual #2 (which contained a Jack Kirby drawn Spidey). I was so surprised when I saw it that I had to save the pictures. They have been sitting on my hard drive ever since, and I suppose it is about time I share them.
So, to answeer the question I posed in the title of this post: Was that guy nuts? I was obviously referring to the person that had these comics bound, so the answer has to be: NO. I'm sure that these comics were bound in the early 1960's when they weren't worth anything remotely close to what they are today. That person was obviously just trying to preserve some periodicals that he obviously enjoyed. In that, the person succeeded. The comics look to be in an almost untouched condition. If it weren't for the fact that they are bound, they would likely grade very highly. A close look shows that like many periodicals though, when they were bound, they were also trimmed to fit. Each book is trimmed on three sides.

Unlike the old blog, we're a little more spam-proof here. We're open again to your comments, criticisms and opinions. At the bottom of each post you'll see a clickable link to a page that will allow you to leave a comment about that post. I hope to hear from all of you. Please be aware though that all comments made will be moderated before they are posted. This is the best way for us to insure that our new blog stays spam free. Thanks in advance for your submissions.

I suppose we're up and running, eh? Again, I hate to see the old blog go. Its archives stretch back to April 2005, and cover some pretty important times for the site. The good news though is that the old blog isn't going anywhere. All of the pages will remain online. We just aren't going to publish anything there anymore. Any links or references anyone has in place to posts there will still be viable. If anyone has any questions, please email us through the site, or post them on the forum (which is also going to get a makeover soon). Thanks for your patience during our upgrades.

Hopefully, you can see that it is worth the time to attend St. Louis's local comic book shows. I hope to see each and every one of you at the next one. As always, you can see this year's upcoming dates here on the site. Go have a gander, and I'll see you later.
Hello!
Glad to see you made it over here from the old blog! We hate to see it go, but with no new support and updates coming from the software provider, we pretty much had no chice. All of the old material posted there will stay there, so any links anyone has to specific entries will be fine.
Thanks again for joining us here, and hope to see you back soon!
