When James, the beloved webmeister and owner of Stl Comics offered to me a gallery of my favorite comic book covers, he lit a fire beneath my feet. When I read comics I do so as a fan first. This gallery contains covers from three types of books. Comic talents I enjoy the work of, covers that made me buy the title, and covers of comics that were on titles that I love. 3.21.05 - THE ULTIMATE UNIVERSE ala THE ORIGINAL MARVEL UNIVERSE The title The Ultimates and Ultimate Spider-Man, along with many other Ultimate universe title stirred a great deal of debate in the comic community when they made their debut. There were debates within the comics community over the need for such books, and debate over the whether the Ultimates were "too adult" or were "offensive to the legacy of Stan Lee." All of that debate is rich in opinion... 2.15.05 - TAKE TWO - A LOOK A GREAT COMIC DUOS GREAT DUOS: “A Cord of Three Strands: Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. “ (Ecclesiastes 4:12) The meaning of that quote is not necessarily easy to see, but when understood, it is deep in reality. When there are two in a partnership they are able to act as more than individuals, and the total of their efforts totals more like three, the two individuals and the team. There are so many excellent characters in comics, and when they meet and join forces... 12.30.04 - THE MARV WOLFMAN INTERVIEW Marv Wolfman is a great writer, one whose work spans approximately 35 or more years. As a reader there is no doubt that I spent a lot of time collecting and reading his work. I briefly met him at San Diego Comic Con International 2003, and am fortunate for this opportunity to have, briefly, interviewed him. His work is very important for continuity fans, but most especially, fans of... 12.2.04 - THE KURT BUSIEK INTERVIEW Among the people I have been asked to interview by readers and fans of his has been Kurt Busiek and really if you look at any of my online archives it is rather clear that he is a very large talent who as of yet had not been cornered and forced to answer my questions. His very fine answers here are really appreciated... 11.28.04 - THE MOUSE ACQUIRES CROSSGEN / CAPTAIN AMERICA RETURNS AFTER YEARS OF PUBLISHED LIMBO DISNEY announced that through its subsidiary it has purchased the liquidated assets of CROSSGEN Comics. The bankrupt company CrossGen placed its assets up for auction in response to Bankruptcy and attempts to address massive debt, both to creative talents and towards lenders. The resulting sale... 10.21.04 - OKAY AXIS HERE WE COME! An Stl Comics Interview with ROY THOMAS Continuing a theme from the last time of World War II as presented in comics, this time we talk to a great writer who created some popular works that had MARVEL and DC characters fighting the Nazis and Imperial Japanese armies. Roy Thomas first introduced... 10.9.04 - FIGHTING THE WARS WITH FOUR COLOR COMICS & WWII COVER GALLERY This is the first in what will be a series of articles exclusively written for STLComics. I thank James for his offer of a place to write these, and for the forum to discuss further anything needing discussion. If you are unfamiliar with my work you can find it at any of the online archives listed below, and of course if you ask, I will spend a great deal of time talking to you about what I like in comics, games or books. Join our discussions in the STLComics.com/forum and read too please the other works upon this site. All review materials sent to the address below will be considered for possible review. alex@stlcomics.com ONLINE ARCHIVES: popthought.com robingoodfellow.com slushfactory.com stlcomics.com Alexander Ness The Land Of Frost Box 142 Rockford MN 55373-0142 Alex's Bio
