We finally (as of 4/01/10) have a new gallery for all of you to see! As in the past, I really didn't do anything but code and design the look of this gallery. My pals, the Variant Mafia Dons, did all of the research so I'll defer to Roger Perez who will fill you in from here. Thanks again for another great gallery!

Welcome to the complete gallery of Alan Light and Don Maris reprints. I am grouping these two sets together because although they were published by two different companies they both reprinted Golden-Age material in the 70's with only black and white interiors. First let us look at the bigger set of the two from Dynapubs better known as Alan Light or Flashback reprints.
ALAN LIGHT REPRINTS
Alan Light was one of the original people involved in the Comic Buyers Guide then known as the Buyers Guide for Comic Fandom (BGCF). In 1974 he decided to reprint some of his favorite Golden-Age comics and offer them for sale via the Dynapubs catalog which was originally inserted into an issue or several issues of BGCF. You can see a copy of his write-up and the cover to the catalog in the gallery below.
The comics themselves were reprints with color front covers and all black and white interiors. Although I only have a few-they all had the original interior ads as well but not the original inside covers. Back covers varied but the earlier issues had new back covers with Dynapubs ads, Special Edition logo or were just totally blank. Later issues had the original back covers but mostly in black and white. (See checklist for specific issues)
The reproduction quality of the interior pages was fair and in fact resembled copy machine printing. However, the covers where nice and made of color cardstock so overall you got a nice outward appearance with a cheaper interior. Considering there were few complete Golden-Age reprints around in the mid 1970’s these were a pretty good alternative to the real thing.
There are actually two series of Flashback reprints as in the early 1970’s a Wood and EC issue and a Human Torch issue were published. These were all black and white including the covers. Later on Dynapubs also published 3 Special Edition Series issues but these reprinted runs of issues instead of just one. Examples of all these are in the gallery below.
There were 38 of the numbered Flashback issues which made up the second series. The checklist and gallery below is organized so that you easily find the following information on all 38: a) the Flashback issue number b) the issue it reprints and c) what kind of back cover each issue has (only original back covers are in the gallery). Additionally, I have included an indicia from Flashback #16, front and back covers from all the other series as well as the catalog and write-up mentioned above.

DON MARIS REPRINTS
The Don Maris/Nostalgia Inc reprints were very similar to the Alan Light Flashback reprints and also came out in the mid 1970’s but did have differences. Although the color front cover looked just like the Flashback covers as far as color and quality-the interiors had better reproduction. They were all still black and white but the images were definitely sharper. Another difference was that I couldn’t find any indicia in the issues I have seen and they had ads for “Remember Radio Inc” on the inside front cover and the ad for the Don Maris reprints on the inside back cover. This was probably not true for all the reprints since the ad is also on the back of Hit #1. (See gallery for examples of all the ads)
There were far fewer Maris reprints than Flashback reprints and totaled only twelve including “The Best of Captain Marvel” which was not a straight reprint of a comic but included past Captain Marvel newspaper comics, articles, promo material and some pics. Although they mostly reprinted different issues than the Flashbacks Hit #1 and Plastic Man #2 were sold by both. They are easy to tell apart once you look at the inside covers as the ads were totally different.
I have set up the checklist and gallery alphabetically since I couldn’t find any dates in the issues I have seen. Most sources put them all as published in 1975 except for the “Best of Captain Marvel” which is from 1973. I did put what kind of back cover each issue has for your reference. Enjoy the galleries and if you have any comments or corrections please post them on the StlComics forum.
