I was born in Detroit, MI in 1974. I’ve been reading and collecting comic
books for 99% of my life even before I knew how to read. The first comic
book I ever owned was Iron Man #98 from 1977.
I have been obsessed with Comic Book Grading even before I bought the first
Overstreet Grading Guide back in 1992, and have always studied and followed
every written word on it since.
I really got hooked on comic books at a very young age, David Michelinie,
John Romita JR, and Bob Layton’s first run on Iron Man in the late 1970’s
was one of the great moments I will never forget. The Avengers and the
Amazing Spider-Man were my other 2 favorites of the period although I was
getting upwards of 10 titles a month even at that early age. By the time I
was in grade school I was having my Father drop me off at small comic
conventions and spending my lunch money on Silver-Age Tales of Suspense,
Iron Man and Amazing Spider-Man(they were a LOT more affordable back then).
Shortly after I got my first Grading Guide in 1992, I took on the task of
grading my entire collection which had already become well over a thousand
books. I had assigned and cataloged all of my grades in the old 100 point
grading system. It was a no-brainer that after the advent of CGC in 2000
that I would be sending my best books off to be graded.
