A CGC GRADED "VARIANT" VARIANT CAPTAIN AMERICA 212 SURFACES ON COMICLINK

Wowsa!  Just like the title says.

A Captain America 212 35 cent variant that is missing the words "Marvel Comics Group" has shown up on Comiclink along with a slew of new graded 35 cent variants.  It is a CGC Graded 4.5 with off white to white pages.  The label also sports the following two comments:  MANUFACTURING ERROR - Manufactured without "Marvel Comics Group" printed at top of cover.  This book comes with a hefty price tag though, listed at $2000.  Regardless of the sellers comments, this is for sure the third known copy, and possibly the fourth.  After my blog regarding variant variants, I was contacted by a person who was looking at purchasing a copy.  This may be the copy, or could be the fourth known.

CLICK HERE TO SEE THE LISTING @ COMICLINK

One thing for sure, this book is a rarity that would be prized by more than just 35 cent variant completionists.

STLComics has had this book on our site since shortly after the 35 cent gallery was created.  You can check it out here:  http://stlcomics.com/gallery/35cent/  Our very own Cosmic-Spider-Man was the first to identify and aquire this anomoly for his complete run of 35 cent variants.  It was he who brought it to our attention.  I was surprised to find a copy on ebay shortly thereafter in an open Variant listing, and was fortunate enough to secure a copy for myself.  Knowing that this book is not a "one and only"  it is now a must for anyone trying to complete the entire run of 35 cent variants.

As usual, if you like variants, especially ones of the 35 cent variety, please check us out here:  http://forum.stlcomics.com/viewtopic.php?t=3127  and talk to us.

KID COLT 35 CENT VARIANT SELLS FOR $1,225.02

All I can say is wow, and congrats to the seller.  There were 13 total bids from 8 bidders.  Final bid price was $1,225.02.  High bidder was raininthrees( 539Feedback score is 500 to 999) Here is some info the seller added to the auction:

On Oct-01-08 at 00:23:57 PDT, seller added the following information:

Thanks so much to everyone who's emailed and called about this book!  Your enthusiasm has been infectious.  Since I now know this is only the 4th copy of this comic known to exist, and some folks have speculated that it's perhaps the highest grade copy discovered so far, I've replaced the original photo with a much better scan, and also included an image of the back cover to give everyone a better idea of it's condition.  You have my apologies for not giving a specific numerical grade, but I just don't feel I'm competent to do so, I hope you understand!  Several of you have asked how many people are watching the auction, and right now there are 14.  All the best, thank you all again, and good luck.

Extra thanks to horkorp for blogging about it, that was totally unexpected.

again, congrats

KID COLT 219 35 CENT PRICE VARIANT STORY

A couple of years back, I went to a comic store in Baltimore to find some 30 cent variants to add to my collection.  The first box I went to had a Planet of the Apes 5.  I was excited.  I went through all of the Marvel Comics backstock, and ended up pulling a stack of 30 cent variants.  The boxes were alphabetical, and almost entirely superhero.  At that time, I still needed several westerns and horror books to complete the run.  At the end of the backstock, there was a box marked westerns and horror.  I was flipping through them, and was finding the regular versions of Mighty Marvel Western 45, Kid Colt 206, ect, when something caught my eye.  There was a Kid Colt 219 35 cent variant looking back at me.  I had never even seen a scan of that book.  At that time, people were still looking for proof that certain 35 cent variants even existed.   I picked out the book, and added it to my pile.

Soon thereafter, a CGC graded 5.5 showed up on the census.  After many months, that copy came to rest in the collection of the Cosmic-Spider-Man.  Without getting into too many details, I ended up trading my copy of Kid Colt 219, to Daffy06, for another western variant, and a handful of 35 cent variants I needed for my new 35 cent variant collection.  People suggested that I may never get another copy.

Fast forward years--Comichunters managed to find another copy of Kid Colt 219, and put it up on ebay.  Darthdiesel was the winning bidder.  Knowing I needed the book, Darthdiesel made me a deal, and now that book is in my collection.

Fast forward again--the fourth known copy of this rare 35 cent variant is now on ebay.  It is hard to grade by the picture, but this may be the nicest copy of them all.  You be the judge:
