We recently received an e-mail from a disgruntled ebayer who apparently did not appreciate our comments about his/her variant purchase on ebay. I'd like to take this opportunity to make sure that person and everyone else understands how we intend on doing things here.
Ebay is a public auction site. Any information published there is information we feel free to not only comment on, but also track for research purposes and report said findings here on our site. This won't change no matter what someone thinks of our commentary. The person in question had obviously failed to do any kind of research on the book for which they paid a ridiculously large amount. Anyone with a personal computer and internet access can come here to our site, and see what prices have been paid in the past for the 30 and 35 cent variants they are buying. It certainly isn't our fault when someone is either too lazy or too stupid to actually research their possible purchases. We shall always feel free to call them out it once they have made a bad decision.
Anyone that doesn't like having us talk about them should either only make purchases in private where we have no access to them or they can pretty much STFU.

Reprinted from a discussion on the Stl Comics Forum:
THE FA STRATEGY TO PRICING VARIANTS
1. Follow Harry around to see what he bids on.
2. Purchase the variant for far too much money to insure that you have to overcharge someone else when you try to flip it.
3. Watch other sales of the same variant to gauge a plausible price range.
4. Add all of those sales together.
5. Mulitply by eleventy.
Just wanted to let everyone know that our buddy awe4one stopped by the forum today and posted the first in a series of articles about the National Diamond Sales and Mark Jewelers Inserts. We are very happy to have this information shared with all of our members and readers, and would like to thank awe4one for taking the time to bring it to StlComics and the Variant Mafia.
You can read the first article here:

Hello, and welcome to the brand new Stl Comics Variant Mafia blog and website. We're very happy to have you along for the ride, and hope that you'll be back to visit often.
We have a lot of great content that we've already published, and more that we're still working on behind the scenes. Our goal is to provide the most accurate information available on variants of all kinds, reprints, and any other oddities in the comic book world. We've found that there just isn't enough reliable information in any of the price guides or other resources in print or online form. We hope to correct that over the coming years. We want everyone to be able to figure out exactly what they have, and with any luck, alleviate all of the misinformation that is currently cutting a streak across the world wide web.
Our three main resources outside this blog are as follows:
Our forum/message boards at StlComics.com...
http://forum.stlcomics.com/
Our original galleries at StlComics.com...
http://stlcomics.com/gallery/
And our interative galleries at Stlcomics.com...
http://gallery.stlcomics.com/
All of our work and research will always be tracked on the forum. All of the research will be published in the original galleries. All of the scans we use to build the original galleries will be hosted int he interactive galleries, and we encourage users to join us in finding and hosting those scans there. We sincerely appreciate any help we can get. Users are also very mush encouraged to interact with us at the forums. We will answer as many questions as we can there and also hope that if anyone has any useful information on any of our research projects that they will post it there for our use.
Again, welcome to our site, and please have a look around. If you love (or hate) variants, you should feel right at home. Thanks for visiting! ![]()
